Student
scholarships play a large role in the function of the Foundation; however,
so as to provide indispensable experience for the youth who wish to pursue
careers in media, internships are also available. Media internships can
often be difficult to break into as well as be expensive to maintain,
as few are paid. To help balance the scales, the Foundation seeks to find
internships for qualified candidates and then make the internships financially
tenable. These different scholarship and internship opportunities are
available to students as early as high school and as deeply educated and
involved as graduate and law school.

Zaline Scott-McShan was born on December 30, 1956 to Rena N. Wilson and
Donald Scott in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In 1961, Zaline moved to Detroit, where she excelled academically, graduating
in 1974 from Cass Technical High School. At Cass, Zaline was a member
of the gospel choir and vocal group, fostering a lifelong passion for
singing. In 1979, Zaline completed her formal education by earning a bachelor's
degree in communication from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
Throughout her ensuing professional life, Zaline constantly strove for
new challenges, and over time, enhanced her communications background
with a developing expertise in computer technology.
In 1991, Zaline joined the technology division of Interep, a radio representation
and marketing firm in New York City. Soon thereafter, she became the impetus
for a company-wide computer-training program that lead Interep and its
employees toward technological leadership in the radio industry. Employees
in New York, as well as in satellite offices throughout the country came
to rely on Zaline as a source of guidance and support as technology began
to play an increasingly important role in daily life. Though "Z," as she
was known to her colleagues, passed away in 1998 after an illness, her
enthusiasm, vision, and dynamic personality live in the hearts of those
whose lives she touched.
As a tribute to Zaline's love of knowledge and quest for personal development,
Interep has established the Zaline Scott-McShan Memorial Scholarship Fund
in her honor.
